Hanukkah 2021

Started making latkes at the temple Sunday morning. Where is Wally when you need him? Swanning off in New York City with his family, thus we have no pictures but we had a great time. Our clothes and hair and the temple all smell of fried potatoes. I wanted to try something new this year. I have thought about making sufganiyot for a while. I tried just fried free form cinnamon doughnuts one year. They were good fresh out of the fryer but a few hours later YUCK. I got up early and set up my dough and carted it off with me to rise at the temple. It grew like crazy and while the other cleaned up I rolled out my dough and filled my 60 ml syringe with raspberry jam. I started frying. Oh my were they good. Fresh out of the fryer they were great but when they cooled just a bit and were dusted with powdered sugar. They looked great and had a bit of crunch on the outside and yummy jam and soft dough on the inside.

I served them at the trunk show we had in the afternoon. The town of Ailsa Craig just outside of London Ontario has a quilt show every year featuring a different country. 2013 the country featured is Israel. We have been trying to get a Jewish  needle arts group going and for out meeting this month the people from Ailsa Craig came to tell us about the show and brought 8 quilts with them. What amazing artists they showcased! Hand dyed material silver and gold threads beading hand embroidery. Wow I was just blown away. If anyone is in the area next May this show is not to be missed. Even if you are not a "quilt person" you will be amazed. These are not your grandmother's quilts.
